Construction work has officially begun for the long-delayed Solis and Blumentritt Stations of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) Project in Manila, following close coordination between the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the city government.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso led the ceremonial start of clearing operations at the Old Antipolo Road site, signaling renewed momentum for a project that has been stalled for two years.
The development comes in response to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to accelerate the completion of key mass transport projects so commuters can benefit sooner from faster, more efficient public transit.
“Doon mo makikita talaga na kapag nagtulungan ang National Government at Local Government, umaandar ang mga proyekto,” Secretary Dizon said. “Kampante tayo ngayon na finally aandar, bibilis na ‘yung proyekto.”
Mayor Isko expressed full support for the project, emphasizing its importance for Manila residents and commuters passing through the city daily.
“On behalf of the people of Manila, we are grateful to the President na maimplement na ang project at natutuwa kami na may bagong DOTr Secretary na mabilis ding kumilos,” the mayor said. “Lahat ng proyekto na makabubuti sa ating mga kababayan, the City Government will support it 101 percent.”
The NSCR project, a flagship infrastructure initiative, aims to connect key cities and provinces in Luzon via a modern commuter railway system, reducing travel time, easing congestion, and supporting economic growth. Once completed, the Solis and Blumentritt Stations will enhance commuter access in northern Manila and serve as vital links in the overall network.
