The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has exceeded its recruitment target for the 1st quarter of 2021 and is way ahead in completing the hiring of 300 staff members for this year as programmed.
The total number of newly-hired DHSUD staff members now stands at 187, approaching the target of 300 by December following the oath-taking ceremony last Tuesday of 76 new personnel, both from the Central and Regional Offices.
This roster added to the 111 new employees who were inducted in separate occasions last month, with the April 26 ceremony hosting 104 individuals — the biggest batch the department had simultaneously employed since its establishment in 2019. Among the 187 were regular employees promoted to higher ranks.
DHSUD Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario bared that more than 10,000 individuals applied for various positions in DHSUD, but said that only those who were in the Top 2 rankings for each position were hired.
The housing czar lauded the DHSUD Human Resources Management Placement and Selection Board, led by Undersecretary Marylin Pintor and Assistant Secretary Leira Buan, for the expeditious recruitment.
He also expressed his confidence that the department “from hereon will be in good hands because we have the best employees.”
“I am expecting that, given the strict selection process you went through, we now have the best and the brightest among the qualified applicants nationwide,” he said.
In his welcome speech, the secretary urged the new staff to constantly strive to make a difference by providing solutions to the adversities the housing industry might face, while upholding integrity and excellent public service.
“I would like to remind you, as I have always reminded every DHSUD employee, to always be part of the solution and never of the problem. Becoming a part of the problem spoils not only you, but the entire department,” he stressed.
“Huwag tayong makuntento sa pwede na ‘yan. We must always strive for what is the best for the housing sector, for our department and for our clientele,” he added.
Secretary Del Rosario suggested for the new members of the DHSUD to internalize the meanings of loyalty, professionalism and desiderata, saying, “These three are time-tested pieces of wisdom that will guide you in your career, especially now that you are working with the government.”
He also sought for the new officials’ loyalty to the housing department and its cause, asking them “to ensure the management that your loyalty must never be to a single person, it must be to the institution because that is the trademark of professionalism.”
