More than 34,000 housing loan borrowers affected by recent weather disturbances are expected to benefit from a one-month amortization moratorium granted by the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation (NHMFC), the agency announced Monday.
The temporary relief measure covers borrowers impacted by Tropical Storms Crising, Dante, and Emong, as well as the southwest monsoon.
The moratorium, which took effect on July 19, 2025, and will run until August 18, 2025, suspends the collection of one amortization payment. It aims to ease the financial burden on families in storm-affected areas.
Cavite recorded the highest number of beneficiaries, reflecting its large concentration of NHMFC housing loan clients, followed by Laguna, the National Capital Region, and other parts of Luzon.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader response to support disaster-hit communities, in line with directives from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling.
“Through this moratorium, the NHMFC reaffirms its commitment to support Filipino families during times of hardship,” NHMFC President Renato Tobias said in a statement. “We remain steadfast in our mission to uphold housing security and financial resilience.”
NHMFC said the moratorium is part of its mandate to assist borrowers during emergencies and provide housing stability amid environmental and economic disruptions.
