Qualified suppliers for the fourth round of the Green Energy Auction (GEA-4) may start to register their intents to bid on June 16, 2025 after the Energy Regulatory Commission issued the Green Energy Auction Reserve prices, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.
In a news release Saturday, the Department of Energy (DOE) announced the schedule of activities for the GEA-4, a move aimed to push further the development and integration of renewable energy (RE) in the country.
The last day of registration is on June 20 while evaluation of registration documents is set June 23 to 27.
“These actions reaffirm the DOE’s commitment to promoting national energy security and sustainability through a transparent and competitive procurement process,” it said.
The process started March 29, with the issuance of the notice of auction and terms of reference, followed by advisories 1 and 2 on May 28 and June 11, respectively.
Posting of the list of qualified bidders is on July 15 and 16 while the auction is set Sept. 2.
DOE said GEA-4 “represents a major stride toward a more sustainable energy future for the Philippines.”
"With over 10 gigawatts of solar and wind capacity up for auction, targeted for commercial operations from 2026 to 2029, this round aims to boost the RE share in the country’s energy mix, strengthen grid reliability and ensure energy security,” it said.
"GEA-4 not only promotes increased investment in RE, but also affirms the DOE’s commitment to competitive, transparent and efficient energy procurement practices.”
The Marcos administration bids to further increase the share of RE in the country’s energy mix to at least 20,000 megawatts (MW) by 2040.
Data from the DOE website showed that as of April 2025, there is about 6,804.67 MW installed capacity for commercial availment and about 249.925 MW own-use capacity.
These cover about 1,319 RE projects, bulk of which is hydropower at around 414. Solar-powered projects follow at 517, as well as wind, 291; biomass, 57; geothermal, 31; and ocean energy, nine.
