DOTr sees completion of 20 ports and 18 airports by June

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is pushing for the completion of 20 port projects before June this year. DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said these projects are aimed at improving the country's transportation infrastructure and facilitating more efficient movement of goods and services.

The completion of these port projects will greatly benefit the country's economy, as it will enable the more efficient handling and movement of goods in and out of the country. Bautista also mentioned that the maintenance of 18 airports is set to be completed by June, in time for the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Aside from ports and airports, Bautista also reported developments in relation to the completion of railway projects. The agency expects the MRT-7 to be completed by June of 2025, while the extension of LRT-1 from Baclaran to Sucat is set to be completed by 2024.

Furthermore, the DOTr is finalizing the different contract packages for the North-South Commuter Railway, as well as contract packages for the Metro Manila Subway. Once completed, the Metro Manila subway will have 17 stations connecting Valenzuela City to Pasay City, and is expected to serve over 519,000 passengers daily.

In line with the government's efforts to promote sustainable transportation, the agency is also looking into constructing more bicycle lanes. "And of course, road sector projects, which will include the construction of the mega bike lanes," Bautista said.

All of these transportation infrastructure projects are crucial in supporting the country's economic growth and development. By investing in transportation infrastructure, the government is creating a more efficient and sustainable system that can support the growing needs of the country.
