DPWH supports two new expressway projects

The government's Build Better More Program has taken on another major infrastructure project with the Cavite Tagaytay Batangas Expressway (CTBEX) set to be built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

According to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, the CTBEX project is committed to pushing through and will not conflict with the proposed Cavite Batangas Expressway (CBEX) by San Miguel Holdings Inc.

While there are pending issues that need to be ironed out, Secretary Bonoan believes that both CTBEX and CBEX can coexist and be interconnected. The CTBEX project is a 50.43 kilometer expressway that will connect Cavite and Batangas, with a spur road leading to Tagaytay City. It is expected to ease congestion in nearby thoroughfares by decongesting 23,000 vehicles daily, starting with the Silang East Interchange of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) which is now open to the public.

The CTBEX alignment will pass through the towns of Silang, Amadeo, Mendez, Alfonso, and Tagaytay in Cavite, and Nasugbu in Batangas. The Metro Pacific Tollway Corp. (MPTC), parent firm of MPT South, was granted original proponent status by the DPWH for the CTBEX project in 2018. MPTC has invested $3.06 billion in road projects nationwide and operates a total of 240.6 kilometers of existing expressways, with an additional 43.1 kilometers currently under construction.

MPTC operates major expressways such as the 105-kilometer North Luzon Expressway, the 94-km Subic Clark-Tarlac Expressway, the 14-km Manila-Cavite Expressway, and the 8.5-km Cebu-Cordova Link expressway in Cebu. MPTC is also building the 45 kms Cavite Laguna Expressway Project which is set to be completed in 2024.

Several infrastructure projects are also in progress under the MPTC Group, including the C5 Link, an expressway that will connect CAVITEX R1 to C5 Road in Taguig. The MPTC is constructing the 8-kilometer NLEX Connector Road and the 2.60-km NLEX Segment 10 R10 in the north. Additionally, MPTC has pending unsolicited proposals to the DPWH to build the P92 billion 15.1 km NLEX-Cavitex Port Expressway Project and the P71.9 billion 19.4km C5 Expressway Project.
