LRT-1 Cavite Extension Line to open by September 2024

The Department of Transportation expects the operations of the Light Rail Transit Line-1 Cavite Extension project to start by September 2024, according to a report by Manila Standard.

Transportation Secretary Bautista said the project construction was on track, and the agency made arrangements with the Light Rail Manila Corp. to ensure the rail line would be operational as scheduled.

“We are expecting that this line will be operational by September of 2024. I’m impressed with the status of the project,” Bautista said during the inspection of the rail line’s Dr. Santos and Ninoy Aquino Stations.

LRT-1’s Dr. Santos, Ninoy Aquino and Redemptorist Stations in Parañaque City achieved 48.03 percent,  34.06 percent and 30.17 percent progress rates, respectively.

Asia World and MIA Stations in Pasay City recorded 37.12 percent and 35.47 percent progress rates, respectively.

“We thank the good Secretary Bautista, as well as our partner government agencies and private contractors, for their support to make the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project happen,” LRMC president and chief executive Juan Alfonso said.

“We share a common goal of elevating the Philippine public transportation to global standards, especially on railways, to strike the maximum benefits for the Filipino people having safe, reliable, and efficient commuting experience,” he said.

The 11.7-kilometer, 8-station LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project will connect Baclaran in Parañaque City to Bacoor, Cavite. The project is a joint venture of the DOTr, the Light Rail Transit Authority and LRMC.

Phase 1 covers 7 kilometers of the 11-km. LRT-1 Cavite Extension, including the Redemptorist Station, MIA Station, Asiaworld Station, Ninoy Aquino Station and Dr. Santos Station. The  remaining stations between Las Piñas and Niog are scheduled to become fully-operational by 2027.

Once fully operational, the project is expected to cut travel time between Baclaran and Bacoor to 25 minutes from 1 hour and 10 minutes, while increasing the rail line’s capacity from 500,000 to 800,000 passengers daily.

LRMC won the bidding for the project and took over the operation of LRT Line 1 on Sept. 12, 2015. LRT Line 1 runs from Baclaran in Pasay City to Munoz, Quezon City.
