The Department of Transportation is setting its sights on launching partial operations of the ambitious Metro Manila Subway Project ahead of President Marcos' term conclusion in 2028. According to Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, while the entire 33-kilometer stretch may not be ready for operation, substantial progress is on the horizon.
The Metro Manila Subway Project, often hailed as the "Project of the Century," is gaining momentum as the government increases its efforts. The deployment of additional tunnel boring machines is a testament to the project's accelerated pace.
Bautista revealed that the current boring machine is on track to reach Quirino Avenue from Valenzuela by the end of the year. Furthermore, two more tunnel boring machines are en route to facilitate tunneling from Metrowalk to Shaw Boulevard.
"With the addition of six boring machines by February, our progress will pick up significantly," Bautista emphasized during a TeleRadyo Serbisyo interview.
The Metro Manila Subway's extensive route will commence in Valenzuela and traverse through Quezon City, Pasig, Makati, ultimately connecting to Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 and Bicutan. Subsequently, it will merge with the North South Commuter Railway and extend all the way to Calamba, marking a groundbreaking development in the country's transportation infrastructure.
This ambitious undertaking reflects the government's commitment to enhancing mobility, connectivity, and economic growth in the bustling capital region. As the Metro Manila Subway Project gathers momentum, the nation eagerly anticipates the transformation it promises for urban transportation.
