Globe plans to bring down remittance fees

Globe is working with international partners in an effort to ensure a more secure and convenient way to send and receive remittances via GCash, according to a report by Manila Times.

"We are also continuously working with our international partners to make remittance sending more affordable to our OFWs (overseas Filipino workers)," Jules Abalos, GCash's head of international business, told The Manila Times.

"This includes closer collaboration with remittance companies to find the most economical and sustainable way of serving our customers, especially Filipinos abroad," he added.Abalos claimed that efforts had already produced positive results as sending remittances to GCash from the United States, Australia and Hong Kong was now free of charge.

Globe has launched GCash Overseas where Filipinos in Australia, Japan, Italy, the US, Canada and the United Kingdom can download and register for the GCash app using international numbers."Now our kababayans (countrymen) in those countries can support their loved ones and family back home by sending money anytime, paying their bills and buying them prepaid loads," Abalos said.

Philippine-based mobile-money operators have been urged to go global and help drive down high remittance charges that have been a burden to OFWs.
