Steer App: Revolutionizing Construction Management to Cut Project Costs

A new construction management app named Steer is set to transform the industry and help construction firms save on costs, providing a robust solution to the perennial problem of budget overruns and project delays. Steer, launched in 2022, empowers construction companies to take control of project management, site operations, and resource utilization.

Arup Maity, the founder and CEO of Steer, explained that the app was born out of the necessity to address the common industry issues of projects going over budget and falling behind schedule. "Construction projects, by default, are over budget and delayed, causing not only monetary but also reputation issues for main/general contractors," stated Mr. Maity, who also serves as the CEO of QuickReach, Inc. He further emphasized that by leveraging Steer, companies can potentially save up to 20% of project costs by minimizing rework and reducing material waste.

Steer's functionalities extend beyond cost control; it offers digital solutions to streamline various management tasks that have traditionally been paper-based. The app empowers construction firms to gain better visibility and control over their operations and resources, ultimately helping them manage costs more effectively and safeguard their profits. Steer's app and website include 30 modules covering Project Management, Site Resource Management, Safety Management, and Design Management.

A standout feature of the Steer app is its unique material management solution, a feature absent in many competing platforms. As Ram Macasaet, Steer's digital success consultant, pointed out, "On average, materials make up about 70% of the total cost of many construction projects. Rework and materials misuse, if not managed properly, translate to a lot of money down the drain, but it can be saved if you have Steer's materials tracking & collaboration solutions in place."

Steer's software is built on a no-code platform, offering users a shorter learning curve compared to other software in the market. This approach substantially reduces the need for extensive training and enhances the success rate of implementation.

Notably, Steer is a homegrown company that has already established partnerships with firms like CDCC-PHINMA, Big Ben Construction, NationStar Development, Mindanao Global, and Colliers Philippines. While initially focused on the domestic market, the company has recently expanded its reach to international clients.

Arup Maity underscored the significance of digitizing the construction industry, stating, "Construction is one of the oldest and biggest industries in the world, but it's also one of the least digitized... While there are a handful of solutions from global brands, the big challenges of contractors in APAC (Asia-Pacific) remain unaddressed."

For those interested in exploring the Steer app, it is accessible online at www.steerplatform.com and available for both Android and iOS users as Steer Mobile. With its innovative features and commitment to cost-effective construction management, Steer is poised to steer the construction industry into a more efficient and profitable future.
