PEZA, ERC sign cooperation agreement

On 14 July 2025, Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Director General Tereso O. Panga met with Energy Regulations Commission (ERC) Chairperson and CEO Monalisa C. Dimalanta to explore possible collaboration and synergies between PEZA and ERC toward the development of sound and effective regulatory frameworks.

One of the key topics discussed during the meeting was the possibility of a PEZA-ERC Memorandum of Agreement, which would prioritize data sharing between the two agencies.

The proposed MOA also envisions the potential implementation of a regulatory sandbox framework within PEZA Economic Zones. The said framework would allow PEZA Economic Zones to serve as a testing grounds for new technologies and business models under relaxed regulatory conditions and close supervision. The data and insights gathered from these pilot implementations would help policymakers to craft evidence-based, future-ready policies. At the same time, the framework would provide a conducive environment for technology proponents and innovators, promoting ease of doing business and fostering innovation within the energy sector.

This strategic dialogue between PEZA and ERC marks a significant step toward fostering innovation-friendly regulatory ecosystems and lowering the cost of doing business within the economic zones.
