PEZA signs registration agreement with first-time taiwanese investor EZconn

The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) has announced a significant step in attracting foreign investment by signing a registration agreement with Taiwanese manufacturer EZconn for a new facility at the Lima Technology Center-Special Economic Zone in Lipa City, Batangas.

The agreement was finalized on Wednesday, with EZconn committing to an investment of PHP 70 million to produce high-precision optical fiber communication components, cables, connectors, and related products.

PEZA Director General Tereso Panga emphasized the importance of this registration, stating that EZconn's investment underscores the Philippines' growing appeal to foreign investors, particularly in the booming telecommunications and fiber optics sector.

“EZconn’s registration highlights the Philippines’ appeal to foreign investors, particularly in the rapidly growing telecommunications and fiber optics industry,” Panga remarked. He also noted that this venture aligns with PEZA’s mission to enhance the competitiveness of the country’s ecozones, fostering inclusive and sustainable development.

The facility is set to commence commercial operations in the first quarter of 2025, and it is expected to significantly contribute to the Philippine economy.

EZconn's production output will cater to export markets in the United States, Europe, and Indonesia, with an anticipated annual boost to Philippine exports of approximately USD 3.14 million. Additionally, the project is expected to create over 50 direct jobs for local workers, further supporting economic growth and employment in the region.

PEZA's latest collaboration with EZconn is part of a broader trend of increasing Taiwanese investment in the Philippines. Between January and September of this year, PEZA approved four projects from Taiwanese investors, totaling PHP 634.15 million. This influx of investments is indicative of the Philippines' strategic efforts to enhance its economic landscape and establish itself as a key player in the telecommunications industry.
