A Batangas-based resort has been named the best wellness destination in the Asia Pacific, adding momentum to the Philippines’ push to position itself as a global hub for wellness tourism.
Nawa Wellness in Calatagan, Batangas received two distinctions — Asia Pacific’s Best Resort of the Year and Best Wellness Innovation of the Year — from the Asia Pacific Spa & Wellness Coalition (APSWC) during an awards ceremony held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on April 25.
The recognition highlights not only the resort’s unique offerings but also the broader potential of Philippine wellness tourism. “It is truly an honor to receive this award, especially at this time when wellness has become a significant pillar of Philippine tourism,” Nawa Wellness operations manager Tanya Deldar told the Philippine News Agency. “This opens up more avenues for the Philippines to be recognized as a credible wellness space, both in the local and international scene.”
Nawa Wellness integrates traditional Filipino practices such as “hilot” massage and kawa (cauldron) baths into modern wellness experiences. Its private suites, inspired by iconic Philippine destinations, combine natural materials, heritage design, and contemporary comfort to serve as immersive sanctuaries for guests.
Industry observers said the award demonstrates how Filipino wellness traditions can be leveraged to attract high-value travelers seeking restorative experiences. It also comes as the Department of Tourism has been promoting wellness tourism as one of its key emerging products alongside sun-and-sea, heritage, and adventure offerings.
Nawa Wellness is part of Araw Hospitality Group, which also operates Lihim Resorts in El Nido and UNWND Boutique Hotels. The group’s portfolio has been recognized for blending local culture and sustainability into hospitality experiences.
With this recognition, the Philippines gains greater visibility in the regional wellness tourism market, a segment that continues to expand as travelers seek holistic and health-oriented experiences.
