Panglao Island in Bohol has been recognized as one of the top 10 trending destinations for 2025 by Skyscanner, a leading travel comparison platform. The Department of Tourism (DOT) announced this exciting achievement in a press release on Sunday, highlighting it as a significant acknowledgment of Panglao’s rising popularity and the increasing global interest in the Philippines as a travel destination.

Ranked eighth among the best places to visit, Panglao has experienced a remarkable 77 percent increase in flight searches during the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in the previous year. This surge underscores the island's appeal to both local and international travelers.

Panglao is celebrated for its diverse tourism offerings, boasting pristine beaches, the iconic Chocolate Hills, and eco-friendly attractions such as the Loboc River and Tarsier Sanctuary. These natural wonders, combined with a commitment to sustainable tourism, have established Bohol as an emerging hub for wellness and relaxation. Skyscanner described Panglao as an appealing alternative to more traditional destinations in Europe, making it a sought-after location for travelers seeking tranquil getaways.

The recognition follows the successful hosting of the International Health and Wellness Tourism Congress in the Philippines, reinforcing the country's growing status as a key player in the wellness tourism sector. This event showcased the Philippines’ dedication to promoting health and wellness tourism, particularly in regions like Western Visayas.

The Skyscanner ranking is based on flight search data from January 1 to June 30, 2024, highlighting a noticeable trend among travelers from the United Kingdom who are increasingly looking toward lesser-known yet exceptional destinations that offer unique experiences outside of Europe.

Panglao's accolade comes amidst stiff competition, with the top seven trending destinations including Reggio Calabria, Italy; Tartu, Estonia; Siem Reap, Cambodia; Baltimore, United States; Portsmouth, Dominica; Cordoba, Spain; and Tromso, Norway. Stuttgart, Germany, and Thiruvananthapuram, India, rounded out the top 10, taking the ninth and tenth spots respectively.
