Aboitiz InfraCapital takes over Bohol airport ops

Aboitiz InfraCapital officially assumed the operations and management of Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) on Monday, marking a new chapter for one of the country’s key tourism gateways.

The formal turnover, conducted by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), makes BPIA the third airport under the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group. It joins Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) and Laguindingan International Airport under Aboitiz InfraCapital’s expanding Airports platform.

“We are excited to officially begin operations at Bohol-Panglao International Airport and bring our brand of operational excellence, innovation, and passenger-focused service to this important gateway,” said Aboitiz InfraCapital president and CEO Cosette Canilao.

Described as the country’s “Green Gateway to the World,” BPIA ranks as the ninth-busiest airport in the Philippines. Under a %u20B14.53-billion public-private partnership (PPP) project, the airport will undergo a series of upgrades, including terminal expansion, landside and airside modernization, and installation of new systems.

Initial improvements will aim to increase the airport’s passenger capacity from 2 million to 2.5 million per year within two years, with plans to further expand capacity to 3.9 million by 2030.

Rafael Aboitiz, Vice President and Head of the Airports Business at Aboitiz InfraCapital, highlighted the company's long-term vision for the airport.

“We are committed to transforming BPIA into a globally competitive gateway that reflects the beauty and hospitality of Bohol while unlocking its full tourism and economic potential,” he said.

The takeover aligns with the Aboitiz Group’s thrust to support tourism-driven growth and build smarter infrastructure. With MCIA, Laguindingan, and now BPIA under its wing, Aboitiz InfraCapital is cementing its role as a major player in Philippine airport operations.
