Filipino hotel chain expands to Cambodia with two landmark projects

A hospitality group with Philippine roots is pushing deeper into Southeast Asia with the launch of two large-scale hotel projects in Cambodia.

Hotel101 Global, the international arm of DoubleDragon Corp., has signed definitive agreements with Canopy Sands Development to develop properties in Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville. Each will feature nearly 700 standardized units, positioning them among the largest hotels in the country.

The move is part of the company’s broader ambition to operate one million rooms across 100 countries, with Cambodia joining Japan, Spain, and the United States as active expansion sites.

In Phnom Penh, the project will rise on a 2,033-square-meter site in Tonlé Bassac, a bustling riverside hub near Aeon Mall and the Independence Monument. Planned amenities include a swimming pool, fitness center, all-day dining, business facilities, and commercial spaces.

Meanwhile, the Sihanoukville property will occupy 4,623 square meters within the $16-billion Bay of Lights master-planned development. With about 680 rooms, it is expected to become the city’s largest hotel, complementing existing international operators such as Accor and Wyndham.

Cambodia welcomed 6.7 million international visitors in 2024, with further growth anticipated following the opening of the new Techo International Airport in September 2025. The two upcoming hotels are projected to generate $109.55 million (P6.3 billion) in revenue upon full sales.

Executives highlighted that the company’s asset-light model—standardizing rooms into “HappyRoom” units and offering them through a unit ownership program—has allowed rapid scaling across different markets.

The projects are expected to boost Cambodia’s tourism and hospitality sectors, create jobs, and draw additional foreign investment. For the Philippines, they also represent potential inflows of U.S. dollar revenues as the brand extends its global reach.

Both hotels are targeted for completion by 2028, underscoring the company’s long-term vision of building a million-room global portfolio.
