The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) has formally launched the bidding process for the lease and redevelopment of the iconic Mile Hi property within Camp John Hay, Baguio City, in a move to attract new investments, boost tourism, and create jobs in the region.
The 6,647-square-meter site, formerly a popular recreation center, will be transformed into a mixed-use complex featuring an eco-hostel, high-end retail outlets, and upscale dining establishments. The redevelopment is envisioned to blend modern design with environmental sustainability and historical preservation.
“This strategic redevelopment of Mile Hi underscores our commitment to unlocking the full potential of Camp John Hay,” said BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer Joshua Bingcang. “By attracting private sector investment and creating new commercial opportunities, we are not only enhancing the camp’s appeal as a premier destination but also stimulating economic activity for the benefit of the community and the nation.”
The winning bidder will be granted a 25-year lease to restore and upgrade the site into a modern commercial hub. The project is expected to further position Camp John Hay as a premier leisure and investment destination in Northern Luzon.
The redevelopment of Mile Hi is part of BCDA’s broader revitalization efforts in Camp John Hay, which has already attracted over PHP1 billion in private sector investments since its turnover. Current major players in the area include Landco Pacific Corp. under Metro Pacific Investments Corp., which operates The John Hay Hotels; Golfplus Management, Inc.; and DuckWorld Philippines, which manages the golf course.
Other notable investors in the area include Stern Real Estate Development, Amare La Cucina, and Top Taste Trading, which have contributed to the area's growing reputation as a highland hub for tourism and commerce.
