EV charging network eyed under new PH-Vietnam partnership

A local power distributor has partnered with two Vietnam-based firms to accelerate the development of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in Metro Manila and other major Philippine cities.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the utility firm said it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with V-Green Global Charging Station Development Corporation and Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Company (Green GSM) to work on the deployment of charging stations and electric taxi hubs. The partnership will focus on site identification, network efficiency, scaling EV adoption, and knowledge exchange on EV technologies and system design.

The collaboration aims to support the growth of the country’s EV ecosystem through technical cooperation and infrastructure expansion.

“This partnership brings together our collective strength in infrastructure, technology, and experience that will redefine our cities and our communities,” said the company’s chairman and chief executive officer. “We are committed to helping build this ecosystem – one that is future-ready, inclusive, and grounded in service. We want Filipinos to experience the future of transport, not just in Metro Manila, but across the archipelago,” he added.

Executives from both Vietnam-based partners expressed optimism about the deal’s potential to fast-track green mobility in the Philippines.

“This marks a key milestone in V-Green’s mission to accelerate the green mobility revolution in Southeast Asia,” said V-Green chief executive officer Nguyen Thanh Duong. “By combining our expertise in EV charging infrastructure with our partner’s strong local presence, we aim to rapidly deploy a reliable and accessible charging network across the Philippines.”

Green GSM is affiliated with Vietnamese EV manufacturer VinFast, which is expanding across several markets in the region.

The companies are expected to finalize implementation strategies in the coming months as part of their commitment to support the country’s transition to sustainable transport.
