PBBM commits to strengthening support for local businesses

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to bolstering local businesses, addressing the country’s largest business group, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), during the 50th Philippine Business Conference & Expo (PBCE) in Pasay City. His message, delivered by Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Secretary Fredrick Go, emphasized ongoing initiatives and legislative reforms aimed at driving business growth and economic expansion.

"We have always stood by you," President Marcos conveyed, highlighting how the government has prioritized policies and programs that promote business continuity and economic progress since his administration took office in 2022. Marcos cited several strategic reforms, such as the launch of the Electronic Local Government Unit (eLGU) system in 2023 and the creation of green lanes to expedite permits for strategic investments. Additionally, Executive Order 32 streamlined the approval process for information and communications technology infrastructure, reflecting a commitment to improving business operations.

Key legislative measures were also highlighted, including amendments to the Public Service Act and the passing of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Code of 2023. These changes, according to Marcos, were made to attract more foreign investments and deepen collaborations between the government and the private sector. He added that feedback from the private sector led to refinements in the CREATE MORE bill, which is nearing final approval in the legislative process.

The administration’s efforts to enhance the country’s workforce were also outlined, with initiatives such as the Philippine Skills Framework and the Skills Training for Employment and Entrepreneurship Program being developed to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving job market. Moreover, Marcos emphasized the importance of fostering innovation through the recently launched National Innovation Agenda and Strategy Document 2023-2032, designed to create a smarter and more resilient Philippines.

Supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) remains a key focus, with programs like the Rise-Up Multi-Purpose Loan, Rise Up Tindahan, and Pondo sa Pagbabago at Pag-asenso being rolled out to improve financial access for small businesses. These efforts aim to empower local entrepreneurs and drive economic growth from the grassroots level.

During the event, PCCI presented its annual PBC Resolution to the administration, outlining key areas of focus, including food security, human resource development, and increased investments and job creation. The resolution also included specific recommendations, such as establishing a Technology Task Force to advance agricultural innovation, revitalizing key sectors like coconut and aquaculture, and improving logistics infrastructure. To address human resource needs, PCCI called for amendments to the Philippine Qualifications Framework, enhanced research and development centers, and stronger healthcare and malnutrition programs.

Fredrick Go, representing President Marcos, assured the business community of the administration’s continued collaboration to achieve a prosperous and inclusive "Bagong Pilipinas." He noted that his role is to integrate and implement various investment and economic policies effectively, while valuing insights from the private sector to ensure success.

“My directive from the President is to help effectively coordinate and implement the government’s investment and economic strategies, and your feedback is crucial in achieving this,” Go stated, signaling a clear intent to maintain a strong partnership with the country’s business leaders.
