DHSUD, SHFC turn over housing units to Intramuros HOA

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development’s key shelter agency, Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), on Friday turned over 100 housing units to the members of Intramuros Community Homeowners’ Association, Inc. in Sitio Tukip, Brgy. Lagundi, Morong, Rizal.

The beneficiaries were informal settler families (ISFs) living in communities near Intramuros in Manila under SHFC’s High Density Housing Program.

In partnership with Intramuros Administration, SHFC targets a total of 470 row houses with loft in the same site for other beneficiaries.

DHSUD Undersecretary Lyle Pasco, who represented DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar during the event, said that the beneficiaries’ dreams of having their own homes is a dream of every Filipino family, which DHSUD plans to fulfill through the President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Program.

“HOAs drive positive change in housing communities, serving as our potent partners in addressing existing community and social issues and shaping needed programs,” Undersecretary Pasco explained.

“So I congratulate the Intramuros Community HOA… and enjoin you to help build a community lifestyle by supporting safe and secure environment to make homes better everyday,” the undersecretary added.

He said the DHSUD, in turn, commits to engage and work for the communities by empowering them to become more constructive and efficient organizations.

SHFC President Federico Laxa, for his part, urged the beneficiaries to properly maintain the housing units as these will stimulate new beginnings toward achieving more opportunities.

President Laxa also mentioned that a livelihood package will be awarded to beneficiaries as one of their income sources.

Under the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Program, DHSUD and its key shelter agencies are tasked to build 1 million houses annually in the next six years to address the country’s housing backlog pegged at more than 6.5 million units.

Secretary Acuzar has been actively engaging housing stakeholders including government financial institutions and private banks and developers to promote the flagship program.
