Aboitiz Renewables Inc. has received the Final Certificate of Approval to Connect (FCATC) from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) for its Calatrava Solar Power Plant (SPP) in Negros Occidental, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.

The 137.4 megawatt alternating current (MWac) solar power plant in San Isidro, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, which supports the government’s bid to increase renewable energy (RE) sources in the country, is the largest operating solar and variable renewable energy (VRE) facility in the Visayas.

”Aboitiz Renewables is able to complete great projects like the Calatrava SPP with the strong collaboration from NGCP. We appreciate NGCP for working closely with us to bring this project online, and helping us progress our humble mission to deliver affordable, reliable, clean energy to customers,” Aboitiz Renewables president Jimmy Villaroman said in a press release on Thursday.

“This milestone adds significant capacity to the grid, helps electricity suppliers meet their Renewable Portfolio Standards obligations, and is another step forward for the country as far as our nationwide energy transition objectives are concerned.”

Aboitiz Renewables Inc. is the RE arm of Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower).

The government has been approving RE projects as it bids to increase the share of RE in the country’s’ energy mix to about 35 percent by 2030 and 50 by 2040.
