Ohio-headquartered Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH) is considering investing up to $500 million in the Philippines to put up a state-of-the-art tertiary hospital as part of its existing Global Business Services operations in the country, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.

The company said this information was disclosed during the meeting of its officials with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., who led the delegation of trade and security executives for a three-day official visit in the US on July 20-22.

“As a USD13 billion integrated Catholic health delivery system based in the United States, we’re proud to expand our global reach and deepen our existing commitment in the Philippines,” John Starcher, president and CEO of Bon Secours Mercy Health, said in a news release on Wednesday.

The company currently has a team of about 170 in the country through its subsidiaries – information technology provider Nordic and Bon Secours Mercy Health Philippines, which provide back-end support to its global operations.

With the expansion plan, the company targets to increase its employees in the domestic economy to about 1,200.

Starcher said they are “excited to begin the aggressive exploration of developing state%u2011of%u2011the%u2011art healthcare delivery services to provide unique, premium access to the Filipinos and our own associates.”

This plan was welcomed by Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Frederick Go, who dubbed it as “a strong vote of confidence in the Philippines and a transformative opportunity for our healthcare and services sectors.”

“We will work closely with BSMH to help turn their plans into reality. Their investment will generate meaningful jobs and help deliver world-class facilities, advanced medical equipment, and high-quality healthcare for the Filipino people,” he said.
