Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon has established a new office within the agency to oversee policies aimed at expediting the Marcos administration’s big-ticket infrastructure projects, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.
Under Department Order (DO) No. 2025-002, Dizon created the Flagship Project Management Office (FPMO) to ensure that the agency allocates maximum effort and resources to the implementation of priority infrastructure flagship projects (IFPs).
FPMO will monitor the status of the IFPs under the Build Better More (BBM) infrastructure program, where timelines for partial operability and completion will be imposed.
The newly established office has identified the Metro Manila Subway Project, North-South Commuter Railway Project, EDSA Busway Project, and EDSA Greenways Project as priority IFPs within the Greater Manila Area.
Outside Luzon, the priority IFPs include the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Visayas and the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project in Mindanao.
Such projects will be supervised and monitored by Dizon himself, as chairperson of FPMO.
“Personal ko pong tututukan ang mga projects at iyan po ay guided by very strict timelines. So, magiimpose po tayo ng deadlines para sa mga projects na iyan,” said Dizon.
The DOTr chief said he will soon identify other projects as priority IFPs, if deemed necessary in the future.
As part of its function, FPMO will coordinate the implementation, monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of priority IFPs with the attached agencies of the DOTr, partner and implementing agencies, other departments and government offices.
The office will also consolidate and mobilize agency resources to streamline and synchronize budgeting for and implementation of priority IFPs.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. earlier instructed the newly appointed Dizon to speed up priority transport system infrastructure projects to alleviate commuter woes.
In response, the Transportation Secretary affirmed his commitment to expedite said projects, emphasizing the need for high-quality infrastructure that meets global standards.
“Ang objective natin simple lang: pabilisin, at ayusin para maging safe ang ating transport systems. Hindi pwede ang pwede na,” Dizon was earlier quoted as saying.
