Tugade inspect new trains for PNR Clark 1 project

DOTr Secretary Art Tugade inspected in Valenzuela today, 26 January 2022, the brand new trains that will be used for the PNR Clark 1 Project. These were purchased by the DOTr and PNR from the Japan Transport Engineering Company and Sumitomo Corporation.

Nasa 58 train sets ang inaasahang tatakbo sa kabuuang North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) System mula sa Clark International Airport hanggang sa Calamba, Laguna.

Maraming beses na tinangkang i-implement ang proyektong ito: 1st in 1994 with Spain and the private sector (Northrail Project); 2nd in 1999 with Japan (JBIC); 3rd in 2004 with South Korea (North-South Linkage Project); and 4th from 2002-2011 with China (Northrail Project).

The latest attempt to implement the project ended up in a protracted legal battle in international arbitration (Northrail vs. SINOMACH), which threatened to further delay and stall progress on the NSCR Project as of June 2016.

Now, with assistance from the Japanese Government / Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), PNR Clark Phase 1 (Tutuban-Malolos; 38 km.) and PNR Clark Phase 2 (Malolos-Clark; 53 km.) are now in full swing construction, and delivery of the NSCR’s 58 8-car Train Sets (464 Train Cars or bagons) have started, with the 1st Train Set already delivered in November 2021.

Oras na matapos ang PNR Clark Phase 1, magiging 35 minutes na lamang ang travel time mula Tutuban, Manila patungong Malolos, Bulacan, mula sa kasalukuyang 1.5 hours.
