SM to build another exhibition center

SM Prime Holdings, Inc. is investing P1.7 billion to build an 18,000-square-meter trade hall SMX Center for International Trade and Exhibitions (SMXCITE), positioning Metro Manila as a “go-to venue” in Southeast Asia for international trade expositions, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.

In a statement Wednesday, SM Prime said SMXCITE would rise within the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Complex by the first quarter of 2027.

The new Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) venue will feature two buildings that can accommodate international trade shows, product launches, corporate gatherings and large-scale consumer exhibitions.

Once completed, SMXCITE and the existing SMX Convention Center Manila can offer 35,000 square meters of combined space.

“This expansion reflects our confidence in the Philippines’ growing stature in the MICE space,” SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. executive vice president Peggy Angeles said.

“With world-class infrastructure and a strategic location, we believe Manila can rival regional peers as a go-to venue for international trade events,” Angeles added.

Aside from MICE venues within the SM MOA Complex, SM Prime’s total convention portfolio also include SMX Aura in Taguig, SMX Bacolod, SMX Davao, SMX Clark, SMX Olongapo, Sky Hall Seaside Cebu and Megatrade Hall in SM Megamall.
