Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco welcomed IMG Golf representatives to the DOT Central Office in Makati City on August 7, marking a key step in advancing the Philippines' position in the global golf tourism market.
The meeting underscored IMG Golf’s strategic initiatives designed to leverage the Philippines’ expanding golf tourism industry. Secretary Frasco expressed strong enthusiasm for these efforts, emphasizing the DOT’s commitment to transforming the country into a premier global destination for sports tourism. With over 100 golf courses distributed across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, the Philippines is already recognized for its high-quality golf facilities, which rank among the best in Asia.
IMG Golf, renowned as a leading global agency in sports, fashion, and media, brings considerable expertise to the table. With a legacy of more than 50 years and over 800 events managed, IMG Golf's extensive experience in golf event management aligns perfectly with the DOT's vision. This collaboration is expected to enhance the visibility of Philippine golf courses on the international stage and attract more global tourists.
The discussions also highlighted the potential for integrating IMG Golf’s world-class event management capabilities with the DOT’s promotional strategies. This collaboration aims to showcase the Philippines' diverse golf offerings and attract international golf tournaments, which will contribute to the country’s tourism growth.
Joining Secretary Frasco at the meeting were IMG Senior Vice President Winnie Heng and IMG Global Partnerships & Business Development Director Neoh Wee Lee. Representing the DOT were Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Shahlimar Hofer Tamano, Undersecretary Ferdinand Jumapao, Assistant Secretary Gissela Quisumbing, and Head Executive Assistant Atty. Glenn Albert Ocampo. Their collective presence underscored the importance of this partnership in elevating the country’s golf tourism sector.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to exploring further opportunities and developing strategies that will enhance the Philippines’ attractiveness as a golf destination.
