Completed drainage system protects residents in Koronadal City

The flood-prone community of Sitio Cabuling in Barangay Saravia, Koronadal City is now safeguarded during the rainy season after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed the construction of P14.68-million flood control structures in the area.

Residents have been expressing their gratitude to the DPWH, for building flood control structures that includes an 860-linear meter drainage system supplemented with a 2 by 3 by 6 meter box culvert.

Secretary Mark Villar stressed the importance of providing flood control projects in flood and landslide-prone areas such as Sitio Cabuling, which greatly needs the project to protect lives and properties while also securing peoples’ sources of income.

“We made sure to provide the community with this project knowing that its residents are constantly recovering from damages caused by frequent flashfloods and landslides in the area. The structures have been relieving their fears and concerns for over three (3) months now,” said Secretary Villar.

Despite the movement restriction caused by community quarantines, the said flood control structures, funded under FY 2020 DPWH Infrastructure Program, implemented by DPWH South Cotabato 2nd District Engineering Office, was completing them in just four (4) months, ahead of its scheduled completion, in time for the rainy season.
