The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) on Thursday approved Iloilo City’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) aimed at boosting economic development while protecting the environment.
In a ceremony held at the DHSUD Central Office boardroom on Thursday, Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario led the ratification of Iloilo’s CLUP, which aims to transform the city into a more livable, innovative and well-governed locality with a resilient economy while safeguarding the environment.
“Today, we have listened to Iloilo City’s presentation on how they intend to pursue their growth and development in the coming years,” the housing czar stressed.
Secretary Del Rosario also noted that the CLUP will be crucial in helping Iloilo City set the direction in achieving its vision of becoming “a model of a livable, well-governed city of empowered and innovative Ilonggos that safeguard the environment, and preserve the culture while sustaining a robust and resilient economy by 2029.”
Moreover, the DHSUD chief stated that it will likewise be a boon for the local government unit and its constituents in bouncing back from the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as in disaster mitigation.
“This offers a unique opportunity to rebuild for a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable environment. Although the plan is now for approval, its implementation will be a long and even more challenging process. But looking at your plan earlier and your perseverance, I am hopeful that Iloilo City will be ready to take on this challenging task,” Secretary Del Rosario added.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas presented the CLUP via video conference.
According to the local chief executive, the CLUP is likewise expected to pave the way for the implementation of development programs aimed at boosting Iloilo City’s overall progress.
Also present at the event were Undersecretary Marylin Pintor, Assistant Secretary Daryll Villanueva, Environmental, Land Use and Urban Planning Development Bureau Director Mylene Rivera, DHSUD Regional Office-6 OIC-Director Eva Maria Marfil and other senior officials.
Iloilo City secured the fourth CLUP ratified by DHSUD. Last year, the Department had approved the CLUPs of the cities of Ormoc, Mandaue and Zamboanga – all with a common goal of achieving economic progress through effective land utilization without causing harm to the environment.
