The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has constructed new box type drainage structure to safeguard the residents of flood-susceptible Barangay of Camaman-an in Cagayan de Oro City.

In a report, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the Department allocated an amount of P37.22 Million for the project which was implemented from March to October last year.

Spanning 432 meters, the new drainage system serves as a bigger outlet for rainwater to discharge towards the sea without inundating the low-lying residential properties.

“We hope that this structural measures will be the ultimate solution to the sufferings long endured by residents of Barangay Camaman-an during rainy and typhoon season,” said Secretary Villar.

According to Secretary Villar, flood-mitigation projects remain a top priority hence in 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the Department has allocated an amount of P101.8 Billion for Flood Management Program across the country. (DPWH)
