The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a new sports complex in Baler, Aurora.
DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said the completion of the new Aurora Sports Complex Project by the DPWH Aurora District Engineering Office will boost the economy of Aurora Province as one of the country’s premier tourist destinations especially during summer.
Secretary Villar, citing a report from DPWH Aurora District Engineer Roderick Andal, said that the completed outdoor sports complex has a swimming pool, an oval track, and a grandstand that can accommodate around 2,000 spectators during large convention and events.
“Construction was almost stopped due to the pandemic, but we had to deliver this outdoor sports complex to serve not just athletic persons but also the public as they now have a spot for their exercises, be it jogging or biking,” Secretary Villar said.
Implemented in phases, the Aurora Sports Complex involved construction of a perimeter fence, three (3) viewing stands, and grandstand, for a total project cost of P99-million funded under the 2019 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
The project is anticipated to benefit Aurora’s tourism industry with the holding of sports tournaments once the quarantine restrictions are lifted.
