DPWH completes flood control project in Zamboanga del Sur

A 581-meter flood control structure built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will protect residents living along the Salug River in Barangay Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur during rainy season.

The P49-million project implemented by Zamboanga del Sur 1st District Engineering Office involves the construction of flood control structure on steel sheet pile foundation along the upstream of Salug Daku Bridge.

Secretary Mark Villar emphasized that the construction of flood mitigation structure is deemed vital to lessen severe destruction along low-lying and coastal areas in the occurrence of strong typhoons and heavy rains.

The flood control structure is beneficial to 962 residential houses, along with other properties and livestock and protects the communities adjacent to Salug River in Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur.
