In an effort to enhance and improve structural integrity of bridges, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the replacement works from temporary to permanent two (2) bridges, located in San Emilio, Ilocos Sur.
According to DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, the replacement of Baang and Tiagan Bridge from temporary bailey to permanent concrete ensures safety and improve mobility of not just residents but also agricultural products to the upland municipalities.
“With these permanent and sturdier bridges, we can expect faster delivery of goods and services that will help boost the economy as well as provide more livelihood opportunities for the locals in the area,” said Secretary Villar.
“Aside from their economic benefits, these bridges will also improve tourism in the province as it serves as a safer and faster access road leading to Skyline View Deck and Kakantuban Rock Formation in Quirino, Ilocos Sur,” added Secretary Villar.
The 30-lineal meter Baang Bridge in Barangay Cabaroan and the 20-lineal meter Tiagan Bridge in Barangay Tiagan, both in the municipality of San Emilio, Ilocos Sur was completed under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) with a total amount of P27.3 million and P18 million, respectively. (DPWH)
