The Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office in Central Luzon is taking steps to position the region as a welcoming and accommodating destination for Muslim travelers. By enhancing services and amenities that cater to the needs of Muslim tourists, the DOT aims to tap into one of the fastest-growing tourist groups globally.

Richard G. Daenos, the DOT Regional Director, emphasized the importance of identifying and improving facilities and services to meet the demands of Muslim travelers. An orientation was conducted with tourism stakeholders in the region to educate them on understanding Muslim travelers and the fundamentals of Halal foods and certification.

In addition to Central Luzon's rich natural resources and diverse cultural heritage, the focus is now on providing more Muslim-friendly accommodations and facilities, Halal-certified restaurants, and easy access to Halal foods and beverages to attract Muslim travelers.

To assess and promote Muslim-friendly facilities, Daenos, together with DOT Undersecretary Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar, recently conducted an ocular inspection of Subic Bay Freeport. Various establishments, such as Moonbay Marina - The Villas, The Lighthouse Marina Resort, Sun Plaza, Shoreline Hotel, Segara Hotels, Subic Grand Harbour Hotel, Fusion Corner, Leonardo’s, and Mr. Taste Halal Food and Restaurant, were inspected during the visit.

Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Tourism Department also organized a rolling tour of Subic Bay destinations and attractions. Central Luzon's partnership in promoting Muslim-friendly facilities and services was evident during the country's hosting of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) conferences, as well as the Southeast Asian Games.

To further promote the region as a Muslim-friendly destination, various activities were conducted in the past, including the 1st ASEAN Halal Expo in SM Clark, Pampanga in 2019, and the 2nd Philippine National Halal Conference in the same year. The DOT's efforts aim to make Central Luzon a preferred choice for Muslim travelers seeking welcoming and accommodating experiences during their visit.
