PEZA partners with Humble Sustainability to boost ESG in ecozones

Manila, Philippines – The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) and Humble Sustainability Inc. formalized a partnership to advance environmental sustainability in ecozones with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on November 6, 2024, at the PEZA Head Office. The agreement was signed by PEZA Director General Tereso O. Panga and Humble Sustainability CEO Josef Richard Werker.

This collaboration underscores PEZA's commitment to integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives within its ecozones. The partnership focuses on several key SDGs:

  • Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11): Promoting responsible disposal of used IT assets, reducing landfill waste, and creating livelihood opportunities for recyclers.
  • Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12): Encouraging sustainable production practices and waste reduction efforts.
  • Climate Action (SDG 13): Developing initiatives to mitigate climate change impacts and environmental degradation.
  • Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17): Enhancing collaboration to build a circular economy among PEZA-registered business enterprises (RBEs).

The MOU also outlines a framework for the Environmental Sustainability Development Partnership (ESDP), aiming to institutionalize cooperative efforts on circular economy practices and environmental stewardship.

“This partnership aligns with our goal of transforming PEZA ecozones into hubs of sustainability while providing meaningful contributions to global climate action,” said DG Panga.

Humble Sustainability, a leading climate technology firm in the Philippines, has reintroduced over one billion items into the supply chain, helping businesses generate value from used tech assets. The company also provides tools and services to assist organizations in achieving their ESG targets.

Werker expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, “Our shared vision with PEZA will enable us to drive innovation and sustainability on a national scale.”

The partnership is set to enhance the ecozone ecosystem, fostering economic growth while championing environmental responsibility.
