The growing number of the middle class bolsters Ayala Malls’ resolve to further expand its transformation program, with ongoing upgrades expected to be completed in several flagship malls this year, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.
Expansion works in Glorietta and Greenbelt in Makati City, Trinoma in Quezon City, and Ayala Center Cebu are expected to be finished this year, according to Ayala Malls President and head of leasing and hospital group Mariana Zobel de Ayala.
“This extensive transformation is far more than just renovation, it’s about creating spaces where life happens, where memories are made, and one that aligns perfectly with Ayala Land’s long-term growth story of building spaces that people love,” she said in a briefing Thursday.
Zobel de Ayala said the budget for their expansion program has been increased to PHP17.5 billion from PHP13 billion earlier as they bid to sustain the expansion of all their malls.
She said the expansion program will allow them to have around 700,000 square meters of gross leasable area in the next five years.
“We need to be aggressive,” Ayala Malls chief operating officer Paul Birkett said during the same event.
He explained that as more people become more financially strong, so is the need to provide venues where they can enjoy life.
“It’s not just about redesigning spaces, it’s about understanding how people want to live, move, and be inspired,” he added.
