PH businesses remain resilient despite political noise

Philippine businesses continue to demonstrate resilience and adaptability amid ongoing political noise, confident that they can navigate challenges as they have in the past.

During the Shareholders’ Association of the Philippines (SharePHIL) General Membership Meeting in Makati City on Wednesday, SharePHIL chairperson Ma. Aurora Geotina-Garcia emphasized that the local business community has weathered similar uncertainties before and will do so again.

“This is not the first time we're going through this exercise. Historically, the business community has been able to thrive and respond to these kinds of challenges,” Garcia said. “We will carry on, and we can live through it.”

Garcia highlighted that investors continue to seek stability and predictability, which are essential for sustaining business confidence. She noted that while questions remain about how current political developments will be resolved, businesses are focusing on continuity and adaptability.

“They just need to know that there will be a resolution at some point,” she added.

Garcia also pointed out that businesses had successfully navigated through the unprecedented challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, underscoring the private sector’s strength and flexibility.

“So whatever happens, business will continue,” she said.

Meanwhile, Semirara Mining and Power Corp. president Maria Cristina Gotianun said their group, part of the Consunji-led conglomerate with interests in mining, energy, utilities, and infrastructure, has not felt any negative impact from the current political developments.

“So far, we did not feel anything,” Gotianun told reporters, adding that they expect operations to remain business as usual.

As political developments unfold, the Philippine business community remains focused on stability, long-term growth, and resilience, confident in its ability to adapt to changes and continue contributing to the country’s economic progress.
