Building constructions top 12,000 in January

The country’s construction sector recorded 12,526 building activities in January 2025, reflecting sustained growth and investment in real estate development, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said Friday.

Preliminary data showed these projects accounted for a combined floor area of 3.71 million square meters and were valued at P48.57 billion. The report excluded certain categories such as facade improvements, helipads, water tanks, and demolitions that do not report floor area.

Residential projects led the surge, comprising 61.2 percent of total construction activities with 7,671 projects amounting to PHP20.94 billion. The bulk of these were single-type houses, totaling 6,863 constructions.

Non-residential construction followed with 3,138 projects, valued at PHP24.16 billion. The majority of these developments were commercial buildings, underscoring continued business expansion.

Additionally, additions to existing structures accounted for 3.7 percent of total construction, while alterations and repairs contributed 7.8 percent and 2.2 percent, respectively.

The average cost of construction in January stood at PHP12,208.10 per square meter.

The strong start for the construction sector aligns with the country’s continued economic momentum, with both residential and commercial developments fueling activity and contributing to job creation and regional growth.
