SHFC grants one-month payment moratorium for typhoon carina victims

The Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) has announced a one-month moratorium on monthly payments for beneficiaries affected by Typhoon Carina.

This decision, made on August 2, 2024, follows a directive from Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar, who called for immediate relief for those impacted by the typhoon in Metro Manila and Central Luzon.

SHFC President and CEO Federico Laxa played a key role in this effort, overseeing the distribution of food packs to affected families in Malabon City. The moratorium, detailed in SHFC Memorandum Circular No. 24-068, is in effect from August 1 to 31, 2024, and applies to identified and qualified member-beneficiaries in the hardest-hit areas.

During an interview with PTV's "#BagongPilipinasNgayon," Laxa emphasized the importance of the moratorium, stating, "Secretary Acuzar issued a memorandum circular granting a payment moratorium to our fellow citizens.

They can temporarily pause their payments for one month while they recover." He added that SHFC is closely monitoring the needs of beneficiaries and stands ready to provide additional support as required.

Beyond the moratorium, SHFC has extended relief to approximately 10,000 families affected by the typhoon, distributing essential supplies such as rice, canned goods, medicines, and hygiene kits.

SHFC remains committed to its mission of improving the lives of its housing beneficiaries. Currently, the corporation is working on 12 Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Housing (4PH) projects, including developments in San Fernando City, Pampanga, Davao City, and Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental. These projects are expected to deliver over 45,000 housing units, contributing to a broader goal of 505,000 units by 2028.
