President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assured the public of the government’s ongoing efforts to complete several major transport infrastructure projects within the year, including the Metro Manila Subway and the continued modernization of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) system.
In the latest episode of his official podcast released Friday, the President emphasized that big-ticket transport developments are steadily progressing. “We will be able to open it — to reach Valenzuela. We have the extension of the MRT,” he said, adding that key phases will start to reach completion by late 2025.
Marcos reiterated that these projects are part of a broader commitment to create a transport system that is safe, affordable, reliable, and accessible for all.
As part of immediate measures, the administration also rolled out an increased fare discount for students. Starting June 20, students using MRT-3 and Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 are eligible for a 50 percent fare discount, up from the previous 20 percent.
“Students usually don’t have much cash. This bigger discount will help them a lot,” the President said.
The administration’s transport agenda aligns with its broader Build Better More infrastructure program, which continues to prioritize efficient mobility solutions across Metro Manila and the regions.
