Landmark digital reform seen to boost connectivity nationwide

The Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) has described the newly enacted Konektadong Pinoy Act as a landmark reform that will help bridge the digital divide and accelerate the country’s digital transformation under the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023–2028.

“Reliable and affordable internet means more students, especially those in remote areas, can gain access to online learning resources. Micro, small and medium enterprises can reach broader markets, while clinics can deliver telehealth to those who are unable to travel to regional centers,” DEPDev Secretary Arsenio Balisacan said in a statement Monday.

He added that the measure would also benefit farmers and fisherfolk by providing timely access to market and weather information, while ordinary citizens would find it easier and less costly to access government services.

The Konektadong Pinoy Act seeks to improve the country’s digital landscape by introducing more competition, promoting infrastructure sharing, and ensuring the efficient use of radio frequency spectrum.

DEPDev said these reforms will pave the way for wider coverage, faster internet speeds, and lower costs—helping digitalization become a stronger driver of productivity and inclusive growth.

Officials also emphasized that stronger digital infrastructure enhances national resilience, particularly during disasters, by keeping households, businesses, and government services connected.

“This is a future where no Filipino is left behind and accessible digital opportunities uplift every individual, home, livelihood, and community,” Balisacan said.
