President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has lauded the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for its vital contributions to the Philippines' development and its support during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During a meeting with outgoing ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa in Malacañang on Thursday, Marcos expressed deep appreciation for the bank’s financial and technical assistance, which played a key role in mitigating the pandemic's impact and aiding the country’s recovery.
“The partnership between ADB and the Philippines has significantly grown, and your support during the pandemic was critical to our recovery,” Marcos stated, emphasizing the importance of the bank's involvement in foreign-assisted development projects.
The President also affirmed his commitment to strengthening ties with the ADB, citing its continued support for economic development, infrastructure, climate resilience, and human capital projects.
In recognition of Asakawa’s leadership and his efforts to enhance ADB’s partnership with the Philippines, Marcos awarded him the Order of Sikatuna with the rank of Datu (Grand Cross) Gold Distinction.
Asakawa, who has served as ADB President since January 2020, expressed gratitude for the recognition and for the opportunity to collaborate with the Philippines during his tenure.
The ADB remains a pivotal partner for the Philippines, consistently supporting projects that promote inclusive and sustainable growth across the nation.
