Newly appointed Energy Secretary Sharon Garin has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring energy security, expanding renewable energy, and strengthening the country’s energy investment climate.
Garin, who officially took her oath before President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday, said reforms initiated under outgoing Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla will remain central to the department’s policy direction.
“These include the acceleration of renewable energy development, the expansion of electrification efforts, the enhancement of energy resiliency, and the continued strengthening of our investment climate,” Garin said in a statement.
She cited the Green Energy Auction program, the consistent growth of renewable energy capacity, and increasing investor interest in the country’s energy transition framework as key indicators of momentum.
“These initiatives are aligned not only with our long-term energy goals but also with broader aspirations for inclusive and sustainable national development,” she added.
Garin emphasized the importance of collaboration, transparency, and innovation in meeting the government’s objective of a “reliable, secure, and sustainable energy future” for all Filipinos.
Her appointment comes amid ongoing efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and ensure nationwide energy access amid growing power demands.
