Lonely Planet, the renowned travel magazine, has crowned Siargao Island as the premier destination in Southeast Asia. The recognition, featured in the magazine's July article, praises Siargao for its stunning natural beauty and exceptional surfing opportunities, particularly highlighting the world-famous Cloud 9 break.

Described as a tropical paradise, Siargao offers a plethora of activities for visitors. These include surfing lessons suitable for all levels, cave tours, yoga classes, and vibrant music performances in local bars and cafes. The island’s allure lies in its ability to provide both thrilling adventures and serene retreats, making it a versatile destination for all types of travelers.

Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Frasco welcomed the accolade, emphasizing Siargao's unique charm and cultural richness. "This recognition reflects the indisputable beauty of Siargao, from its famous surfing spots to its pristine beaches and lively local culture," Frasco stated. She described the island as a place that harmonizes adventure with tranquility and sustainability.

Frasco highlighted the importance of this acknowledgment for Siargao and its residents, calling it a proud moment for the entire country. "The DOT extends its heartfelt gratitude to Lonely Planet for this honor and to all travelers and locals who make Siargao a truly unique destination to love," she said.

In response to this recognition, Frasco reaffirmed the DOT's commitment to promoting sustainable tourism and preserving the natural wonders of the Philippines. She noted that the department would use this accolade as motivation to continue enhancing the country's tourism offerings while ensuring environmental conservation.
