Megaworld Corporation is eyeing the Philippines to become the "Broadway of Asia" in the next five years once the Westside City township in Parañaque City finishes its major infrastructures, according to a report by Philippine Star.
Kevin Tan, president of Megaworld's parent company Alliance Global Group, made the announcement during the inauguration of the new Repertory Philippines Theater in Eastwood last October 5.
The inauguration also served as the gala night of Repertory Philippines' newest production "Jepoy and the Magic Circle."
Tan joked the idea of the Repertory Philippines Theater was the fastest that Megaworld Lifestyle Malls head Graham Coates ever did because his two daughters were alumni of the local theater company.

He noted that many other alumni went to star in international productions like in Broadway, "The new theater will continue to create and develop young talents and the future of performing arts."
Tan then announced Megaworld's five-year plan to make the Philippines "the Broadway of Asia" with a theater district on Westside City, which includes a 2,100-seat main theater, two 800-seat theaters, a 500 seat-theater, and a theater school.
Repertory Philippines' artistic director Jeremy Domingo officially labeled "Jepoy and the Magic Circle" as the theater company's 464th production in 57 years.
He added that "Jepoy and the Magic Circle" would run at the new theater until February, meaning, the company's holiday production using the songs of Jose Mari Chan will run elsewhere.
