PEZA, Techlog ink agreement for sustainable Cebu project

In a major step to bolster the Philippines’ role as a global hub for information technology and business process management (IT-BPM), Techlog Center Philippines signed a Supplemental Agreement (SA) with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) for its latest project in Cebu.

The agreement was formalized on May 21, 2025, at the PEZA Head Office in Pasay City. Signing on behalf of Techlog was Director for Finance & Accounting Dexter Medilla, while PEZA Director General Tereso O. Panga represented the government agency. Also present as witnesses were PEZA Deputy Director General for Operations Vivian S. Santos and Techlog Director for Workplace Operations Patrick Joseph Reyes.

Techlog, an American-owned enterprise operating across multiple ecozones in Luzon and Visayas, will launch its fifth IT facility in Cebu City by January 2026. The site will house both voice and non-voice BPO operations, including data analytics, timekeeping, coding, document and payment processing, and workforce management services.

The expansion also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth), SDG 9 (industry, innovation, and infrastructure), and SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production). Through initiatives such as mobile phone and PC refurbishment and sustainable re-manufacturing, Techlog is integrating circular economy principles into its business model.

To date, Techlog Center Philippines has invested over %u20B12.7 billion in the country and employs more than 6,800 Filipinos. PEZA emphasized that the project supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s push for the digitalization of the economy, while also contributing to inclusive, sustainable development.

PEZA Director General Panga reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to attracting more tech-driven and SDG-aligned investments. He noted that investor interest in PEZA ecozones has seen an upward trend under the current administration, signaling strong confidence in the Philippine IT-BPM sector.

This latest partnership not only reinforces Cebu’s status as a key tech hub outside Metro Manila, but also highlights how business expansion can go hand-in-hand with sustainability and innovation.
