Filinvest-ENGIE joint venture opens 3-MW Laguna solar project

The joint venture between the Filinvest Group and ENGIE Services Philippines has activated a solar rooftop system to power the operations of semiconductor firm Nexperia Philippines Inc. in Laguna, according to a report by Philippine Star.

Constructed by Filinvest-ENGIE Renewable Energy Enterprise Inc. (FREE), the three-megawatt-peak solar facility was built at Nexperia’s assembly and testing plant within Light Industry and Science Park I in Cabuyao.

“This milestone in our push to expand renewable projects feels especially fitting as Filinvest celebrates 70 years of turning Filipino dreams into reality,” said Juan Eugenio Roxas, president and CEO of FREE and FDC Utilities Inc.

“Through this project, we aim to help fortify Nexperia’s operations by improving the reliability and flexibility of its energy supply mix and shielding its lines from grid price volatility,” he said.

The project has been added to FREE’s growing portfolio of clean power solutions for industrial clients, underscoring its commitment to supporting the country’s energy transition push.

“In an industry where a single power fluctuation can jeopardize millions of precision chips, reliability is not a luxury – it is a competitive edge,” Roxas said.

The solar facility likewise bodes well for the Filinvest Group’s commitment to promoting environmental sustainability.

“This collaboration with Filinvest and Nexperia reflects our shared commitment to delivering practical, low-carbon solutions for industrial clients in the Philippines,” ENGIE Services managing director Jean-Baptiste Dreanic said.

Last November, FREE launched its first solar project in Cebu for Merasenko Corp., a Japanese medical device manufacturer in Lapu-Lapu City.
