PH Secures 4 Prestigious Tourism Awards at 2023 World Travel Awards in Dubai

The Philippines achieved a triumphant milestone at the acclaimed 2023 World Travel Awards (WTA) held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, securing four major recognitions that underscored the country's global prominence in the tourism landscape, as announced by the Department of Tourism (DOT).

In a groundbreaking achievement, the Philippines clinched the coveted Global Tourism Resilience Award, marking a momentous feat by showcasing unparalleled global leadership, pioneering vision, and innovative strategies in overcoming critical challenges and adversity.

Among the five countries and destinations worldwide recognized for this inaugural award, the Philippines, hailed as a benchmark for best practices in tourism resilience, stood out prominently.

Adding to this remarkable achievement, the country was honored with the prestigious title of World's Leading City Destination for its capital, Manila, a historic first that highlights the city's growing appeal on the global tourism stage.

Furthermore, the Philippines defended its exceptional standing by once again securing the titles of the World's Leading Dive Destination and the World's Leading Beach Destination, reaffirming its unrivaled allure in offering world-class dive sites and breathtaking beaches.

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco expressed profound gratitude, citing the global tourism resilience award as a resounding affirmation of the collective efforts undertaken in the past year to fortify the foundations of tourism development.

In a statement dated Dec. 5, Secretary Frasco emphasized the elation felt within the Philippine tourism sector, celebrating the country's ascent to global prominence across diverse tourism facets, from its stunning beaches and dive sites to the dynamic urban landscapes and rich culture and heritage.

The awards not only spotlighted the Philippines as an unparalleled destination but also acknowledged the dedication and hard work of its people, the main asset contributing to the country's remarkable tourism assets.

The prestigious accolades were received by DOT Undersecretary Shahlimar Hofer Tamano and Assistant Secretary Maria Rica Bueno, representing the tourism chief during the overseas awarding ceremony held on Dec. 1 in Dubai.

Graham Cooke, President, and Founder of WTA, praised the Philippines, stating, "The work ethic, the happiness, the smile, and the hospitality that the Philippines have are global icons." He emphasized that the exceptional attributes of the Filipino people significantly enhance the country's tourism offerings and set it apart as a top-tier global destination.
