The government is ramping up efforts to strengthen the country’s sports infrastructure as the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to develop world-class training hubs.
The partnership will prioritize New Clark City and Baguio City as national sports centers. New Clark City already houses Olympic-grade facilities, including a World Athletics-certified Athletics Stadium, a World Aquatics-approved Aquatics Center, and a 525-unit Athletes’ Village. Baguio City, meanwhile, is being considered for a high-performance complex catering to endurance and combat sports.
Officials said the collaboration will combine BCDA’s land development expertise with PSC’s national sports mandate, with funding models expected to include public-private partnerships. The initiative aims to raise the level of grassroots sports, support elite athletes, and strengthen the Philippines’ global competitiveness.
“With this partnership, we are laying the groundwork for future champions while promoting healthier, more active communities,” said BCDA President and CEO Joshua Bingcang.
