July 2025 will likely see the start of construction on the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge, a P175.66-billion project, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.
DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said the agency is close to awarding contracts for the bridge's land-based segments. "I think we are in the process of finalizing the bids and, perhaps, we will start the construction of two contract packages, land-based contract packages, on or before July," Bonoan said.
According to the DPWH's annual procurement plan, land approaches for the bridge are covered in Contract Packages (CPs) 1 and 2. The notice of award for these contracts is set for July 4, with signing on July 13.
CP 1, costing P7.3 billion, covers 6.89 kilometers of land approach on the Bataan side. CP 2, amounting to P3.43 billion, involves the land approach on the Cavite end.
Bonoan said the DPWH would seek contractors for structures under CPs 3, 4, 5 and 6, which have a combined cost of nearly P153 billion.
The DPWH will jointly bid out CPs 3 and 5, costing P55.1 billion, covering the construction of the marine viaduct, cable-stayed bridge and approach spans on the northern segment. CP 4, totaling P46.8 billion, comprises the southern marine viaduct, while CP 6, priced at P50.85 billion, involves the channel and approach bridges near Cavite.
The 32.15-kilometer Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge will span Manila Bay, connecting Mariveles in Bataan and Naic in Cavite. The project aims to reduce travel time between Bataan and Cavite to 45 minutes, from the current 5.5 hours.
