GigaWind4 Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of ACEN Corp., has proposed a P34.524-billion wind power project in Quezon province that could generate 247 megawatts (MW) once completed.
The Banahaw wind project is currently under feasibility study. In a filing, the company said construction could take between two and five years before the facility becomes fully operational.
GigaWind4 noted it will work with several consultants to move the project from development to construction and eventually to operations. The company said the initiative represents a significant stride toward meeting national energy goals and addressing the country’s rising demand for clean power.
The Department of Energy’s efforts to encourage renewable energy investments, particularly in wind, were cited as aligned with the proposal. A World Bank study previously estimated the Philippines’ offshore wind potential at 178 gigawatts (GW), underscoring the resource’s role in diversifying the country’s energy mix.
The Banahaw wind farm is also expected to broaden renewable capacity in Calabarzon, lessen reliance on conventional power sources, and deliver socio-economic benefits to the region.
“In the pursuit of a sustainable and low-carbon future, the proposal for the 247-MW wind farm represents a strategic initiative. It aligns with the national trajectory towards renewable energy, addresses the necessity for a diversified and resilient energy mix, and significantly contributes to the Philippines’ transition towards clean energy,” GigaWind4 said.
